Sanna_Highgate Hill

Sanna is a building sympathetic to the history of the surrounding suburb while also paying homage to the heritage of the client’s family and the namesake for the building. Cantilevered apartments float off the hill like lily pads, with a materiality of craftmanship that holds true to the suburb. The project places an emphasis on response to existing site topography, access to views, maintaining privacy (both to and from the development) and depth in the articulation of both the vertical and horizontal planes. Its siting was critical in provided a design response opportunity that was both sensitive to the existing street condition while also allowing a canvas for articulation in the façade, with selecting materials that maintain a soft, warm palette on the exterior, juxtaposed by a darker recessive interior that highlights the exterior views.
